The player still has to make that determination, unlike this mod which gives instantaneous and completely accurate information on that. Torpedoes do not show if a ship is travelling directly towards you or directly away from you. There are also some mods I run that add in-port filters for camos and the like that are pretty convenient. With this you can look at the parameters and armor of any ship in the game.
